What Happened to Fairness?

Everything is unfair! There is no equality in anything. There is no fairness in this world at all. There are people who have children born strong and healthy with average and even above average intelligence; there are people who have children with physical or mental and sometimes both physical and mental deficits. This is unfair! There are people that live into their 80’s and 90’s healthy their entire lives that die of old age never being ill until the end; then there are those who battle illness their entire lives after suffering for years they die as a child or young adult in their 20’s and 30’s. There are two people that I know; one with stage four colon cancer the other just finding out this week he could have cancer, both in their 30’s with very young children. This is completely unfair! There is no fairness in athletic ability most every high school student can attest to that; some with little effort become the superstar of the team and others work day after day with extreme effort practicing in-season and off-season and never get in the game spending their days riding the bench. This is unfair! One of the things I love to do is run, I ran my first mile with my Dad at the age of 5 and have been running ever since, I have seen so much of God’s beautiful creation on my runs it has truly been a gift from God; tomorrow at the age of 42 I’m running in a Marathon 26.2 miles; there are so many people my age that can’t even walk around in a grocery store, there entire existence is limited to confined areas mostly indoors. This is so unfair! Look at this from a world standpoint most of you reading this are born in America the richest country the world has ever known, you may not think you’re rich but you are, 50% of the world’s population is born into extreme poverty and lives on less than $2 a day. Why are you and I living in the richest country in the world and yet there are so many others that would think it was a great day to have a slice of bread? Totally unfair! It gets even worse; the 3 richest people in the world have more assets than the entire bottom 10% combined. The world’s population is 6,874,004,308 almost 7 billion people; so that would mean that the richest 3 people in the world have more than the bottom 70 million combined. There is nothing fair about that!

It hasn’t always been this way. God had a perfect system in place. Everyone had equality, everyone had the same opportunities, everyone had perfect bodies without illness, everyone was governed by the same rules; all was fair. God didn’t make this world unfair man did. When sin entered the world unfairness entered the world, in a world where everything was fair everything became unfair. “Since you listened to your wife and ate from the tree whose fruit I commanded you not to eat, the ground is cursed because of you. All of your life you will struggle to scratch a living from it” ~Genesis 3:17. When the first man Adam and the first women Eve sinned by eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil sin entered the world and all of life became unfair. You might be saying well it’s not my fault, why should I be penalized for something someone else did; that’s not fair! Exactly, it is unfair; unfair it maybe but true it is as well! Who among us can’t tell a story of how we have been hurt or penalized for a decision someone else has made. A child’s life cut short by a drunk driver, a women afraid for life because of a rapist, a women that has to scratch by on minimum wage to support her children because her husband committed adultery and abandoned her and their children, an entire family killed in a head on collision by a distracted driver veering into their lane. Yes it is unfair that we are penalized for the mistakes of others but it is also just as true.

Jesus Christ came into this world the sinless blameless Lamb of God who suffered and died on the cross for the sins of the world. Now I ask you, is that fair? Is it fair that a man that lived without sin should suffer and die for those who are sinful? We have found that it is unfair for us to be penalized for what someone else has done but we also know that it is true. It is also unfair that Christ had to die for our sins but it also is true. Two of my favorite verses in the bible are John 3:16 and Romans 5:8. “For God loved the world so much that He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life” ~John 3:16. What could be fairer than that in an unfair world; God offered his Son so that we could have eternal life and it is free, available to all that are willing to take it at no charge. “God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners” ~Romans 5:8. Did you catch that; “while we were still sinners Christ died for us”? Now you may be willing to die for an especially good person but no one would be willing to die for a bad person yet that is exactly what Jesus did. “While we were still sinners Christ died for us”! He didn’t say get right with me first, He didn’t say become a good person and then I will die for you, He didn’t say perform a bunch of good deeds and religious acts with self denial and then I will die for you, He died for you why’ll you were still sinning.

The statement I’m about to make is unpopular; as unpopular as it is and unfair as it seems it is still true. Without the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ you are under judgment by God and will spend all eternity suffering in Hell! You might ask what must I do to be saved? Jesus began His earthly ministry with these words: “Repent of your sins and believe the Good News” ~Mark 1:15! What is the good news? The good news is that Jesus Christ the son of God lived a perfect, sinless, blameless life; He was perfect in thought, word and deed. He took your spot on the cross; he died in your place as payment for your sins. What you must do is this: Repent (turn away from sin and turn to the savior) trust that Jesus Christ’s death on the cross is payment for your sins. If you will do that you will be born again, God will give you a new heart with new desires; the old life will be gone and a new life will have begun, you will be saved from judgment and will spend all eternity with God in heaven.

Trust in Jesus I hope you will,

The Three Aspects of Faith

Faith is made up of three things: knowledge, belief, and trust…Faith is believing that Christ is what He is said to be and that He will do what He has promised to do. (Spurgeon, C.H.) “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”  How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher?. . So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. (Romans 10:13-14, 17) When sharing the gospel publicly, and more specifically through open-air preaching you will likely be stopped from preaching by someone who claims to be a Christian.  Oftentimes when preaching in open-air, you will be preaching to a moving crowd.  Someone may walk by and hear you talking about sin and judgment.  Another may walk by and hear you talking about Christ redemptive work on the cross.  I use to think that there was the possibility that those who claimed to be Christian, who stopp

William George Davis, RN

Today I write with a broken heart an open-letter to my nursing colleague, friend and I hope, brother in Christ William Davis, RN. Will has been accused of murder and was arrested on April 11, 2018. I write this as an open-letter because this has become an open-matter. Will Davis and Family Copied from Facebook Dear Will, I miss your smiles and your jovial laughter on our nursing unit. I first meet you about 5 years ago in the spring of 2013. My wife met you before I did; I remember her telling me, “I met a guy in orientation who is going to work on your unit, he is so excited to work on your unit and is real fun.” From that time on you were usually laughing and all smiles. Often times you brought a bag of candy to work, because of this, and your jovial laughter I nicknamed you the Candyman and would even sing in your presences, “Who can make the sun rise and cover it with cheer…the Candyman can, the Candyman can because he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good.”

Come Follow Me

Mark 10 It was Jesus’ custom to teach when a crowd gathered. He taught that it is not God’s will that a wife and husband should separate, for he considers them one flesh. Later, his disciples questioned him about this and Jesus told them that to divorce and marry another is committing adultery. Jesus used the metaphor of how a child excepts as being the way we should except the kingdom of God. Jesus corrected a rich young man’s understanding of good and showed him that to repent and follow Jesus Christ is the only good that a man can do. It is impossible for people to enter the kingdom of God but with God all things are possible. Jesus promised eternal life to all who leave whatever is holding them back from following him. On the journey to Jerusalem, Jesus told his disciples about his coming arrest, trial, humiliation, suffering, death and resurrection three days later. James and John sought honor for themselves at Jesus right and left sides in his kingdom, but he told them, it is for
